Statement

I am a visual artist with an MA in Documentary Photography and Photojournalism. I live with my partner in a small village in Sachsen Anhalt Germany.
I was born in the United Kingdom but grew up in southern Italy. When I left school I went into farming, I worked with the last generation of farmers who had been horsemen, stories were still important and I listened to many. People told stories about themselves, other people, or about places. My interest in country matters and rural culture of one kind or another was aroused and still informs my photography. The environment where I prefer to do my work is the same, though it has changed radically.
Having moved around quite a lot I have become a progressive localist in the way I practice photography. I make work within walking distance of my home and find that the experience of a chosen place or subject intensifies and enhances my vision. I use photography to relate things for which we are loosing the words.
